About Us

Who we are

The Social Learning Center (SLC) is a place where people of all ages and neurodiverse profiles can find support that truly fits their needs. From social groups and counseling to executive function coaching, educational consulting, and professional development, we’re all about helping individuals grow, connect, and thrive—in a way that works for them.

Dr. Abildgaard

Since 2009 based off a need Dr. Abildgaard recognized early in his career when working with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), the SLC is a setting that supports and understands individuals with various types of neurodiverse learning profiles through creating supports and interventions to help them better adapt to their world and the context in which they live. The SLC is fortunate to have a reputation of meeting the client where he/she/they are and addressing the root cause of their current struggles. Through impacting lives through direct theraputic approaches, school-based consultation and now teaching at the University level, the staff of the SLC continues to make a positive impact on our community.

Clinical Branches

In an effort to reach more clients in need of mental health services, Dr. Chris Abildgaard developed a second branch to the Social Learning Center. Through the services provided by two separate agencies, the SLC is able to positively impact the lives of more individuals within their community.

Under new law these things are not covered by insurance (Good Faith Estimate).

  • No, we do not have any psychiatrists or APRN's on staff. We can make recommendations for local providers who can assess the possible need for medication.

  • Depending on the age of the group, most groups will allow up to 4-5 participants. Groups are kept small to protect the efficacy of the program and ensure individualized support.

Although it is not a common practice at the SLC to bring in new clients after the start of a group, a new client may enter an existing group based on the fit of the client to the group and the number of clients in the group at that time.

However due to his new role at U Hart Dr. Abildgaard regrets not being able to take on every case due to his clinical & teaching schedule.
